Hanuman Chalisa, Chaupai 31

Meaning of “aṣṭ siddhi nau nidhi ke dātā”

"aṣṭ siddhi nau nidhi ke dātā" is Chaupai 31 of the Hanuman Chalisa, which Tulsidas wrote in Awadhi. It means: You can give the eight siddhis and the nine treasures. Mother Janaki gave you this boon. Read it slowly, one half at a time, and say the Awadhi aloud.

अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता ।अस बर दीन जानकी माता ॥aṣṭ siddhi nau nidhi ke dātāas bar dīn jānakī mātā

You can give the eight siddhis and the nine treasures. Mother Janaki gave you this boon.

Where this happens in the Ramayana

In the Ashoka grove Sita blesses Hanuman: may he be ageless, deathless and a storehouse of virtue. The boon of siddhis and treasures is the Chalisa's own telling.

अजर अमर गुननिधि सुत होहू। करहुँ बहुत रघुनायक छोहू॥

Ramcharitmanas, Sundar Kand 5.15, chaupai 2
